July Duathlon Race Report

The 3rd & final race of the Phoenix Park Duathlon Series, sponsored by Mason Hayes and Curran took part on Wednesday 10th July. Over 200 juniors & adults took part in wet yet warm conditions. It was great to see over 60 children aged 6-15 getting the chance to run & cycle around Dublin's city centre park. The Park's famous residents, the deer, appeared and caused some diversions for the juniors but they all finished in tricky, wet conditions.

The adult race featured some hot competition for the overall series winners title. 139 adults competed, from over 20 clubs and several companies (Mason Hayes and Curran, as well as Skyworks). Road conditions were tricky on the course, with several slips on the bike, including some of our leaders. All remounted their bikes and completed the course. Winners were Ellen Vitting and Jonathan Butler. Ellen has won in the past here, whereas Jonathan continued his strong form this year to take a maiden victory.

Overall series winners are Jonathan Butler and Sarah Hawkshaw, with some consistent performances since April. Prize winners received vouchers from Base2Race, as well as KIND Snacks and series winners received a bike fitting with Aidan Hammond. This year Belpark Triathlon Club has hosted 3 Phoenix Park Duathlon events, with over 90 club members volunteering their time to make these events a success for 900+ athletes. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2020 for more racing.
